Event Description
Maury County MuleFest 2021 Friday, May 28th – Saturday 29th. Trace Adkins will perform a live concert in historic downtown Columbia, TN on Friday!
This is a FREE community event!
A family fun parade is set to start at 11:00 am Saturday, May 29th and Maury County Mayor Andy Ogles is encouraging locals to join in, bring your car, UTV, tractor, truck, horse, float, motorcycle, etc., and show your support for our military and our Community! Trace Adkins will be the parade Grand Marshal as well!
TO ENTER…there’s no fee to enter the parade. For more information and/or a parade application email: [email protected] or call 931-375-4101.
The event will also include arts & crafts vendors, food, special military salute, live music including the Trace Adkins live concert on Friday!

TRACE ADKINS TO PERFORM LIVE CONCERT IN HISTORIC DOWNTOWN COLUMBIA – MAURY COUNTY MULEFEST 2021
….. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:::
1. Why did we push the date back? Two reasons: First, is for logistical reasons… it takes months and months to plan a weekend where tens of thousands are going to attend (we are going to pull it off in 70 or so days). Second, Trace wanted to headline the concert on Friday evening AND be in the parade on Saturday afternoon… this was the best weekend.
2. Why is the name different? This is in honor of Mule Day, not a replacement, we will have a concert and Yes a parade.
3. Will there be a parade? Yes, on Saturday May 29th
4. How much are concert tickets??? FREE!!! We may have a small reserved section that is paid.
5. What about the GoFundMe money that has been raised? 100% of funds will go to this event with all money being managed by the MuleFest Finance Committee which is Chaired by local businessman Johnny Langsdon.
6. Is camping available? Yes
7. Will there be AG events out at the park? StandBy… I’m still working on that.
8. Do you realize that is Memorial Day Weekend? Yes, we do and it is a great weekend to celebrate together as a community and to honor our fallen heroes.
9. Do you need volunteers and/or sponsors? YES!!! This is a community event supported by YOU and by SPONSORS.
10. Are vendors allowed? Yes. We will be posting contact numbers for vendors, parade lineup, volunteer signups, etc… tomorrow.
Leading the way: Columbia’s MuleFest draws one of largest crowds in city’s history
What began as a movement of frustrated citizens earlier this year culminated into an embraced community celebration on the streets of downtown Columbia as the two-day Maury County MuleFest continued on Saturday with its first parade.
According to Maury County Mayor Andy Ogles it’s one of the largest celebrations that’s taken place in Columbia’s recent history.
MuleFest, a response to the cancellation of the community’s annual Mule Day celebration due to COVID-19, began on Friday with between 18,000 and 22,000 people visiting the county seat’s courthouse square, where country music star Trace Adkins gave the event’s headlining performance.
According to MuleFest organizers, including Ogles and Asgard Brewery owner Stephen Porter, people were happy to finally gather with others after being isolated from large community events for over a year.
Ogles said he hopes Columbia will serve as an example for other cities across Tennessee to begin enjoying celebrations again.

Adkins, who voiced his support for Ogles and Columbia Mayor Chaz Molder, again took a leading role in the celebration on Saturday as he led the parade as its grand marshal atop a military-grade Humvee.
“Sorry I was a little late I rode my mule here,” Adkins said, a few songs into his performance on Friday night.
“I don’t have a very fast mule,” he said.
According to county officials, the Saturday parade, following the concert drew between 10,000 to 12,000 people.
‘Tired of being locked up’
Directly behind the singer, Ogles rode through the city on top of a firetruck operated by the county’s fire service as dozens of other vehicles and floats followed behind in the hour-long parade.
As the parade came to an end, Ogles walked through the city’s streets, shaking hands with visitors.

“This is a testimony that people are tired of being locked up,” Ogles said. “Maury County, for much of COVID, has led the way. Now we are coming into the summer, and this is the biggest event that Tennessee has had post COVID. People are excited.”
The county mayor and his fellow members of the Maury County Republican Party have remained staunch advocates for the state’s return to normalcy amid the pandemic.
“This created a template for other communities to be safe and have fun and celebrate,” Ogles added.
Cody Buchanan and his 3-year-old son River were two of the first to take a spot along the parade route on Carmack Boulevard on Saturday morning.
“I was not happy with it getting canceled for a second year in a row,” Buchanan said of the Mule Day parade. “You have to deal with what you can. I just think it is good for the community to get out and live a little bit.”
Even before the parade began, Jesse James Parham, who was there to watch the event unfold with his 6-year-old daughter said he preferred the event over the traditional Mule Day parade.
Taylor Johnson brought her two daughters Jessica and Tatem to watch the night of live music.
“I can’t believe this,” Johnson said. “I am just blown away. I am amazed at the turnout. Between country music and honoring our military, I am so glad to see us support our small town. I am so proud to live and raise my children here.”
In May 2020, Ogles called for all COVID-19 restrictions to be lifted.
Two months later, the mayor said he would not infringe on the rights of his constituents by implementing a mask mandate, arguing that Gov. Bill Lee’s executive order placing the decision in the hands of county executives, or mayors, was unconstitutional.
In January, Ogles called on state leaders to take action against Facebook, Google and other tech companies for blocking former President Donald Trump from the social media platforms.

A new tradition
The decision to hold an alternative event sparked a contentious dispute between the Maury County Bridle & Saddle Club, who organize the traditional Mule Day event and the new network of individuals behind the new event.
“We did not use any taxpayer dollars,” Ogles told the audience on the main stage as the crowd grew on Friday night. “There is a whole group of people who did this. I was just the crazy one who came up with the idea and said ‘hey guys, I need you to do a favor for me.'”
Earlier in the year, Maury County Bridle & Saddle Club went before members of the Maury County Commission requesting the Mule Day name be preserved.
Following the request, the “Save Mule Day” movement on social media transitioned into a hub for the development of MuleFest.
Ogles previously said the event served as an opportunity for new businesses to invest in the community and build a presence in the region.
Following the parade, Ogles said the event was heavily influenced by the defunct Muletown MusicFest.
“In reality, we are just bringing back a music festival that used to be here many years ago,” Ogles said.

Never take it for granted
Backers of the alternative event included Porter and Johnny Langsdon, owner of Columbia Machine Works.
“I think we had a few people show up,” said Porter as he stood in front of a growing crowd in front of the event’s main stage.
Langson shared that he gained a new appreciation for his own town after speaking with Adkins’ road crew before Friday’s performance.
“They kept saying over and over what a cool community we live in (and) how nice everyone was,” Langsdon said, in a post shared on social media. “Maybe we don’t realize it ourselves because we live here. Our fire, police and emergency services are the best. Great city and county government. I’ll never take it for granted again.”
A bow to those lost in service
Before Adkins began his performance on the festival’s main stage, Ogles joined fellow politicians Rep. Scott Cepicky, R-Culleoka, and U.S. Rep. Mark Green in celebrating the men and women of the United States Military.
During the memorial, leaders called on those in attendance to remember the 15 Maury County men who died while serving in World War II, the 10 lost in the Korean War, six in the Vietnam War and the five lost in wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
“We just need to stop and realize our blessing,” said Eddie Rogers, the chaplain for Columbia’s American Legion Post 19. “Especially for our men and women in the service. We are forgetting what they do. It is very humbling to stop and take a moment to honor them.”
Rogers said the nation will need to continue to rely on servant leaders like the men and women who take on roles in the military.
“I just wish we could get back to the way that we used to do things,” Rogers said.
During the memorial service, Rogers presented Ogles with the flag used in the memorial service, which Ogles took and held to his chest.
