What is a good psi for an electric pressure washer?
In general, I recommend a pressure washer with 1.4 to 1.6 GPM and pressure from 1200 to 1900 psi. Start with a lower pressure, and only increase it when needed. Use a green or white nozzle. Using a pressure washer is an effective and efficient method to clean your car.
Is 2000 psi good for a power washer?
2,000 PSI is usually good enough for the average homeowner, but it’s important to be realistic about your expectations. You’ll be able to freshen up the average dirty surface, but taking on tougher conditions (like mold or oil stains) will more than likely require more cleaning power.
Where are Powerhorse power washers made?
Northern Tool + Equipment engineers put each Powerhorse pressure washer component through a series of extensive, real‐world procedures in our Faribault, MN testing facility and in the field.
How many PSI Do I need to pressure wash concrete?
To clean concrete effectively, use a power washer with a pressure rating of at least 3000 psi and a flow rate of at least 4 gallons per minute (gpm).
How long do electric pressure washers last?
In general, most well know pressure washer companies guaranty their machine for at least 500 hours. Most persons use it for around 50 hours each year. That means that a well-maintained pressure washer should last at least 10 years.
Are Harbor Freight electric power washers any good?
We were impressed by its satisfactory cleaning power. This pressure washer did well enough in tests, blasting mud and oil off our test surfaces without much trouble, though it wasn’t nearly as good as most other models we tested, including the RYOBI RY14122.
How many PSI Do I need to clean bricks?
Tip: Only use low pressure when washing the exterior brick on your house. Pressure washing using 500 to 1000 PSI is recommended for cleaning masonry. Many professionals use 100 to 1500 PSI to avoid damage.
Is 2000 PSI too much to wash a car?
But if you ask the experts, “Is 2000 PSI safe for washing a vehicle?”, they would say it would be risky for a car’s paintwork. In fact, the best PSI for car wash that can effectively and safely clean a car is around 1200 to 1900 PSI. The max PSI for car wash you can use should be only 1900 PSI.
What PSI is safe for car paint?
In general, to protect the paint of your car, you should use a pressure washer with 1200-1900 PSI. Experts recommend using a pressure washer with 1200-1900 PSI with 1.4 to 1.6 Gallons Per Minute (GPM) to protect your car’s paint. While using a pressure washer, also take care that you use the correct nozzle.
How many PSI do you need to pressure wash a deck?
For cleaning a wooden deck, you’ll be best served by using the lowest pressure setting that’s still effective. For soft woods like cedar or pine, this is usually about 500 to 600 psi. For harder woods, it can go up to 1200 to 1500 psi. Choose the right tip to use as well.
How much PSI do you need to clean a house?
For cleaning your house’s driveway, you need a pressure washer set to 2,500 to 3,000 psi. For other areas, like the vinyl sidings, decks, or glass, the pressure should not exceed 1,500 psi. For soft materials, like softwood, you should use even lower pressure, around 500 to 600 psi.
Are electric pressure washers any good?
Electrical pressure washers have the benefit of lower upfront costs and few additional maintenance needs. Electric pressure washers cost less on average, are easier to start and weigh less than gas models. They are also quieter than gas models, due to the lower psi.
Are Ryobi electric pressure washers any good?
5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely powerful for an electric power washer. This is a great power washer for an electric one, however if you have a large area that requires pressure washing I recommended gas pressure washer. It’s a bit slow compared to most gas washers.
Is Sun Joe a good brand?
The Sun Joe SPX3000 pressure washer scored an average of 3.5 stars out of five on Amazon. Positive user reviews mention that this pressure washer ‘doesn’t have the noisy gas engine or the heavy weight.
What is the strongest pressure washer?
With a monster 3000 PSI and 2.0 GPM (1.1 GPM @ 3000 PSI certified by PWMA), the Greenworks 5110502VT is the most powerful electric pressure washer.
Powerhorse 3000 PSI Pressure Washer (87035) Review
Pressure washers are a mainstay of property maintenance. The cost of hiring a contractor often leads homeowners and business owners alike to purchase their own units. Unfortunately, expectations often fall to disappointment when the unit they purchase falls short of the professional performance they thought they were bringing home. Northern Tool offers their Powerhorse 3000 PSI Pressure Washer for $349.99. It’s an attractive price for a gas-powered pressure washer, but will it leave you with the gut-wrenching feeling that your money was poorly spent? Let’s look more closely at what it has to offer.
Assembly only took about 10 minutes. It took me longer to go to the store to pick up 10W 30 oil for the unit than it did to put it together. Only a wrench is needed and the instructions are clear. Once assembled, your connections to the lance and delivery hose are tool-free. You’ll want a wrench to help connect your source hose though.
If you can work your way around a lawnmower engine, the Powerhorse 3000 PSI Pressure Washer will be very easy for you to maintain on your own. Just the ability to use a lawnmower should give you confidence that you can use this system without consulting an expert.

Powerhorse 3000 PSI Pressure Washer Build Quality and Design
There are pretty much two areas where pressure washers are going to vary widely: build quality and power. For Northern Tool’s value-priced Powerhorse 3000 PSI Pressure Washer, there are definitely some trade-offs made to keep the price down. Trade-offs don’t automatically mean poor performance though.
The frame and handle are made from steel tubing that is sure to last for years. There are plastic components here and there, but all the parts that need to be metal are. In fact, not all parts of a pressure washer can be metal and still be effective. Harsh detergents and commonly used chemicals like chlorine can be very corrosive and damaging to exposed metal. That’s why you’ll see the soap storage tank made of plastic. Designers made a smart move and put the tank at the bottom of the unit. Any spillage is going to miss other parts of the engine and help reduce corrosion.
A Familiar Engine
The engine is very similar to a lawn mower engine, so you’ll find plastic in the same areas on the Powerhorse 3000 PSI Pressure Washer that you would on your typical lawnmower. The air filter housing is one. Gas tanks can go either way and Northern Tool went with metal on this model.
A couple of long-term build quality trade-offs exist. The foam handle cover might degrade fairly quickly with the combination of sun, water, and any chemicals you may use in the system. Powerhorse made the nozzle mount between the upper frame fully plastic. It should last for a couple of seasons, but it won’t take much to break it off. I’m not really sure why designers went with plastic rivets to attach it rather than bolts. I get the desire to use plastic and avoid corrosion, but this is a part that you’ll want to consider disposable over the long term.
Power at the Business End of Things
The lance was a nice surprise. For this class of unit, the Powerhorse 3000 PSI Pressure Washer comes with a pretty solidly built business end. It also unscrews in the middle to store more easily. That means should one end fail or break, you’re potentially ordering a smaller, less expensive part rather than replacing the entire thing.
The design seems like it has been intentionally streamlined. Engine components are easy to workaround. Oil changes, filter cleaning, and carburetor access are no problem. To extend the life of all of our small engine tools, we always stick with 93 octane gasoline to avoid issues.
Powerhorse 3000 PSI Pressure Washer Performance
3000 PSI will take care of most pressure washer related tasks, save for the most aggressive. 2.5 gallons per minute is pretty much a mid-range water volume. I tried several different applications that are common to what we do at Parker Street Ministries. Vehicle and mower cleaning is a no-brainer for the Powerhorse 3000 PSI Pressure Washer. It’s more than enough power to take care of our Hustler ZTR or our Husqvarna M-ZT 52 zero turn mower after a morning of mowing. It’s also great for washing our vans. Just put some car washing detergent in the soap tank and go for it.
Mobile car detailers could easily take advantage of this unit. The handle is removable, leaving a low profile pressure washer that could be semi-permanently fastened to a trailer and taken wherever the job is. Parked in a secure location and covered or in a garage will mean it’s ready to go when you are.
Other Uses
Property maintenance is also well within the Powerhorse’s wheelhouse. Cleaning up concrete sidewalks and driveways is a simple task for it. It’s also valuable to us for cleaning fascia, soffits, and building exteriors.
This is an excellent power level for paint prep. We have a commercial level pressure washer that can start chewing away the wood that was used in the 1920s to build the houses in the neighborhood we serve. The Powerhouse 3000 PSI Pressure Washer cleans the exterior, and powers away the loose paint without damaging the wood.
Conclusions and Recommendations
The Powerhorse 3000 PSI Pressure Washer is going to be an excellent choice for DIYers, homeowners, car detailers, and property managers. It’s going to fall short of being a full-out professional commercial pressure washer though. Light to moderate users should expect to get years of use out of this system with proper engine maintenance.
At $299.99, this system is a great balance of value and quality for this class. It’s a perfect solution for our maintaining our property and vehicles. When volunteer teams come in, it’s an easy system to learn and use without requiring me to supervise every moment or provide training. The onboard instructions are certainly adequate for anyone who has used a small gas engine.

The Best Pressure Washer
Watching years of mildew get blasted off a piece of patio furniture provides a unique form of satisfaction—a feeling attainable only with a pressure washer (also called power washers). After more than 80 hours of research and two weeks using eight pressure washer models to clean cars, outdoor chairs, and more, we found that the best pressure washer for most homeowners is the Ryobi RY142300 2300 PSI Brushless Electric Pressure Washer . All the electric washers we tested cleaned well, but the Ryobi has a durable motor, a longer hose, larger wheels for easier maneuvering, a better-designed cord, and lengthier warranty coverage than the competition.
We recommend an electric pressure washer for most homeowners since electric models are easier to use and maintain than gas models. (Gas washers are more powerful, but most people don’t need all of that extra force for around-the-house tasks.) The quiet-running brushless induction motor of the Ryobi RY142300 should last for years, and the machine’s heft helps make it particularly hard to tip over, even when you’re forcefully tugging on the hose. Along with its larger wheels and cable, as well as its hose management, this sturdy design makes the RY142300 the easiest to maneuver and use of the washers in our test group. The company’s three-year limited warranty is also the longest we found. The RY142300 usually costs a little more than other pressure washers, but if you plan to use it three or more times a year, it’s the best value.
If the Ryobi RY142300 is not available, we also like the DeWalt DWPW2400 2400 PSI Electric Cold-Water Pressure Washer. In many ways, it’s identical to the Ryobi, similar in its body design, brushless motor, and overall power and usability. The DeWalt also has some advantages over the Ryobi: It comes with two additional nozzles for a wider array of spray options, a detergent tank that is easier to monitor and empty, and wide pneumatic tires, great for moving the pressure washer across bumpy lawns. The major downsides are that the cord wrap is awkward to get to and difficult to use, and the holder for the spray wand is almost entirely ineffective. We think the Ryobi’s wheels will be fine for most situations, as will its nozzle selections, so we recommend that model first, but we also think anyone getting the DeWalt will be satisfied with its cleaning power.
If you have a smaller budget or plan to use your pressure washer only once or twice a year, we like the Sun Joe SPX3000 Electric Pressure Washer. For about $150 less than the Ryobi RY142300, it cleans about the same, but like most under-$200 models it has a shorter hose, a lower-quality motor, smaller wheels, a shorter warranty, and a design that’s far easier to tip over. Compared with the other budget models we tried, it has a wider selection of spray nozzles; it also offers a durable metal spray wand, plus convenient hose and cord storage similar to that of the RY142300.
If you’re short on storage and you don’t mind carrying a pressure washer around, we also like the Ryobi RY1419MTVNM 1900 PSI Electric Pressure Washer. It’s much smaller than the other models we tested and has less oomph, but it can still handle most jobs (they might just take a little longer). Weighing a little over 20 pounds and sporting a top handle, it’s compact enough for you to carry it as you would a duffel bag. It has wheels and an extending handle, like a piece of luggage, but the wheels are small and have trouble managing an uneven lawn (we ended up just carrying it everywhere). This pressure washer has the same long hose as our main pick, too, but it lacks that model’s high-end induction motor and some of the other, finer details.
If you need more power or want to go beyond the reach of an extension cord and you don’t mind maintaining an engine, we recommend a gas washer. The Ryobi RY803023 3100 PSI Honda Pressure Washer cleans roughly twice as quickly as our electric pick, the Ryobi RY142300, and it’s powered by a dependable Honda gas engine. It has many of the same nice features as the RY142300 does, including oversize wheels, a long hose (in this case, 35 feet), good hose storage, ready availability, and a long warranty. The downside: It’s heavier, it’s louder, and it needs fuel, maintenance, and proper storage in the off-season. But if you need to wash a garden shed at the other end of your property, say, or a filthy boat at the end of your driveway, it’ll do the job (if you have a long enough hose). The RY803023 replaces our previous gas recommendation, the Ryobi RY803001, which has been discontinued. The two washers are identical aside from the RY803023 being slightly more powerful.
What PSI power washer do I need? 8 Examples from a pro
Once you decide to buy a pressure washer for your house or any other purpose, knowing how strong your power washer needs to be is an essential first question to ask. Grimy and dirty external surfaces of a house often require higher pressure, so a pressure washer with more psi. These include walkways, driveways, and stained garages different from other surfaces in cleaning and washing. A pressure washer saves a lot of time and effort, and it ensures that the external surfaces of your house look as good as new.
What PSI power washer do I need:
In general, different surfaces require different pressures to clean. For example, cleaning concrete requires a psi of around 3000 psi. Where cleaning a deck requires a pressure washer only 500 to 600 PSI. Using a higher pressure may damage the surface or paint. Before cleaning any surface, check what pressure you need. If you are unsure, start with low pressure and slowly increase.
It is necessary to adjust the psi of the pressure washer to an appropriate setting before using it to clean a certain surface. However, cleaning with a pressure washer is not as simple as it looks. A pressure washer generally forces the water stream out of the nozzle at pressure 60 times that of a regular garden hose. If this equipment is not used carefully, it may damage the surface you are cleaning. You can easily damage your paved driveway or the paint of your car. Cleaning concrete requires a power washer with a higher psi rating, like 3000 psi. Cleaning a deck requires a lower, 500 to 600 psi rating. Therefore, it is vital to choose the right pressure washer with the correct psi.
This article will give you vital information about psi ratings that experts recommend to clean different surfaces and areas of your home or car. If you are looking to buy a pressure washer, read through this article.
How much psi do I need to clean my driveway?
In general, the pressure you need to clean your driveway is around 3000 psi. Ensure that the pressure washer also has a good flow rate, if possible, around 3 GPM. This should be sufficient to clean your driveway. Use a degreaser if the driveway has oil stains.
To clean your driveway effectively, you need a good amount of pressure and a decent water flow rate. This section will provide you with some insight into the ideal pressure and flow rate for cleaning your driveway while keeping a few precautionary measures in mind.
Along with 3000 psi, a flow rate of 3 GPM (gallons per minute) is recommended to flush out any filth. The more water running through your nozzle in a minute, the less time it will take to clean the driveway.
However, let’s say you’re cleaning the driveway of an office building where there is a risk of paint damage due to a high amount of PSI and GPM – instead of using a pressure washer with high ratings, you should clean the driveway with a more gentle pressure of 1500 psi and 1.8 GPM.
The table below shows the relation of GPM and psi with time to provide a general idea of the amount of time it takes to clean a driveway using different types of pressure washers.
GPM/psi Time 3 GPM/3000 psi 5 minutes 2.5 GPM/2500 psi 7 minutes 2 GPM/2000 psi 9 minutes
How much psi would I need to clean a deck?
In general, for cleaning a deck with a pressure washer, you should use the lowest pressure setting. These should be effective and prevent high-pressure water damage. Softwoods such as pine and cedar require 500 to 600 psi, while harder woods range between 1200 to 1500 psi. Higher pressures can also damage the paint of your deck.
It might seem like an easy task, cleaning a deck by simply pointing and shooting water. However, washing a deck with a power washer without the right equipment or setting can cause irreparable damage to the wood, which can prove costly. For effective deck cleaning, using the appropriate power washer at the correct psi settings is essential. Power washers are powerful enough to carve into brick and gentle enough to remove a few stains and cobwebs.
Always start with the lowest pressure setting if you clean your deck for the first time or use a new machine. For softwood, like pine and cedar, a pressure over 500 to 600 psi may already cause damage. Hardwood, like cambara or cumaru can be cleaned with a higher pressure of 1200 to 1500 psi.
Choosing the right tip to use is also important for effectively cleaning a deck. Generally, a fan or rotating tip works best for cleaning wood. Always start in a safe area and do not point towards people or glass windows if any are nearby. Start around 18 inches from the deck. And ensure you do not get closer than 12 inches from the deck if you are not using a low enough pressure.
If you are unsure if the pressure is low enough, begin cleaning the deck from an easy to repair or replace area. For example, a stair tread is easier to replace than an entire deck board. Start with the correct pressure wash settings from there and gradually clean the other areas. Check that the paint on the deck is not damaged. It is important that you keep a consistent distance between the tip and the deck while cleaning.
How much psi do I need to clean vinyl sidings?
In general, use pressure from 1300 to 1600 psi to clean vinyl sidings. Higher pressure can damage the sidings. If you are unsure about the pressure, start cleaning a small part that is easy to repair or fix in case something does not go as planned.
Exterior textured vinyl sidings are incredibly prone to dust, causing them to grow dull over time. In addition, sidings with lighter colors tend to hold more dirt than those with darker colors. Homes located in areas with dusty roads, subtropical climates, and new developments can also be exposed to a lot of dirt. When sidings begin to turn into shades of brown or green, it is time to give your sidings a good wash at the appropriate psi setting of 1300 to 1600 psi.
How much psi do I need to clean patios and walkways?
In general, a pressure washer with 3GPM and 3000 psi is ideal for cleaning patios and walkways. Use the tip with the widest angle to prevent the surface of these hardscapes from degrading. Using a pressure washer on these surfaces can make brick and concrete look brand new.
First, start cleaning walkways and patios from one end and keep the tip about 12 inches from the hardscape surface to minimize streaking and prevent damage to the surface. Clean the surface using a consistent sweeping motion and use a push broom or a wide spray tip to wash the debris from the surface.
How much psi do I need to wash my car?
In general, I recommend a pressure washer with 1.4 to 1.6 GPM and pressure from 1200 to 1900 psi. Start with a lower pressure, and only increase it when needed. Use a green or white nozzle.
Using a pressure washer is an effective and efficient method to clean your car. Power washers come in two types: electric pressure washers and gas power washers. For washing your car, I recommended using an electric pressure washer. Gas power washers operate at higher psi. If you use one, ensure that you have set the pressure to a lower setting.
How much psi do I need to clean pavers?
In general, a pressure washer with 1600 to 2000 psi is recommended to clean the pavers efficiently. Higher pressure can damage the pavers and paving stones. Always start from a distance and get closer slowly, so you can ensure that all goes well.
A pressure washer on a lower setting is safe for cleaning pavers, mortared flagstones, slate patios, and walls. Higher pressure can damage the mortar between joints. They can crack and get washed away.
Moss and weeds can grow in the joints of paved stone driveways or walkways. Moreover, car traffic can leave stains on pavers and dark areas on its surface. Due to the easiness of cleaning pavers, a pressure washer with 1600 to 2000 psi is enough to clean efficiently.
How much psi do I need to clean concrete?
In general, for cleaning concrete, a pressure washer with a pressure of at least 3000 psi and a flow rate of 4 GPM is recommended. If available, higher pressure can be used to remove contaminants such as paint and tire marks. Use a degreaser to clean some hard stains.
Typically, gas pressure washers can give these high psi ratings. Apply a degreaser or concrete cleaner before power washing to remove any stubborn stains and start at the highest point while working your way down.
The flow rate of the pressure washer is also vital for the cleaning speed. Once the appropriate pressure is adjusted, the flow rate determines how fast the contaminants are washed away from the surface. Contractors recommend 5 to 6 GPM for concrete. Cleaning speed can also be increased by using a rotary nozzle.
How much psi do I need to clean the windows of my house?
In general, for cleaning windows, I would recommend using a pressure of 1500 psi. This lower pressure avoids any glass cracking. Also, it is important to note that the angle at which the water comes out of the nozzle plays an essential role in preventing damage, so choosing a green 45 or white 65-degree nozzle is best for window cleaning.
The Best 2,000 PSI Pressure Washer: Comparison & Reviews (2022)
Pressure washers around 2,000 PSI can be considered light or medium-duty pressure washers. They cost around $200-300, and they’re good for most chores around the house, like cars, patios, decks and siding.

The best 2,000 PSI pressure washer
The Sun Joe SPX3000 isn’t just the best pressure washer with 2,000 PSI, it’s the #1 best-selling product in the industry. It has an average 4.6 star rating from almost 20,000 verified reviews, earning Amazon’s Choice and a top five rating from several other big retailers and reviewers.
Best overall Sun Joe SPX3000 The SPX3000 has an 88% recommendation rate (based on 18,000+ verified reviews from seven sources). It’s the best-selling pressure washer on the market, with the top position at Amazon and Walmart, and top five at Home Depot and Lowe’s. Read more Check price
With 2,030 PSI, the Sun Joe SPX3000 is almost exactly on par with our target pressure range. However, let’s get one thing out of the way: on the company’s website, they mention the working pressure is only 1,450 PSI. Pressure can be measured inside the pump or outside the nozzle, with the second number always being lower than the first because some force is lost by the time water gets released. Sun Joe is trying to be transparent by providing both numbers, but as you can see, this can be more confusing than helpful if you aren’t familiar. The internal measurement is what most companies use, so stick to 2,030 PSI when comparing products.
An entry-level motor and pump provide power, which is common for electric pressure washers in this category, but an uncommon feature is the Total Stop System. This automatically shuts down the pump when the spray gun is off, which reduces wear on both the pump and motor and extends their lifespan. Another surprise is the use of two detergent tanks, which allows you to use different detergents at the same time; the tanks are also removable, so they’re easy to empty and rinse when you’re done.
For only $149 (MSRP), the SPX3000 offers a lot of value for your dollar. There is one design flaw, though. The hose connection is on the front, while the power cord is wired to the side. This makes movement a little awkward when both are connected, so be aware as you move from one area to the next.
The best premium 2,000 PSI pressure washer
The Ryobi RY142300 is the highest quality product you’ll find in the 2,000 PSI range. It has a premium motor and pump, premium accessories and a durable hand truck frame. It’s priced accordingly, but it’s worth every penny for its convenience and reliability.
Best premium Ryobi RY142300 The RY142300 has a 95% recommendation rate (based on 4,000+ verified reviews from three sources). It’s the best-selling electric pressure washer at Home Depot and a favorite among many third parties. Read more Check price
Okay, the Ryobi RY142300 is admittedly a little higher than our target range at 2,300 PSI, but it’s still within reason to compare. It’s more powerful because it uses a brushless induction motor and an axial cam pump. These components are more efficient and more reliable than the common universal motor and wobble pump, plus they operate quieter and can work for longer hours without any issues. They’re also heavier, but this is something to appreciate because it makes the frame more stable (there’s an issue where some of the smaller, lighter models will tip over if you pull the hose too hard).
Speaking of the frame, it’s one of the few that’s designed for function over form. The aluminum tubing is durable and more inline with premium gas pressure washers, and it’s rolling on 12” rubber-tread wheels (the biggest of any electric pressure washer, in fact). There’s a custom dashboard that has storage for the spray gun, hose, nozzles and even the power cord, which are also notable; the spray gun has a good grip, everything uses quick-connect fittings and a turbo nozzle is among those included.
Like we said earlier, the RY142300 is pricier, but it’s the one to get if you want the best of the best. The only flaw to mention is the fact that the detergent tank isn’t removable, which makes it a little hard to empty on the occasions where you don’t use all of your cleaning solution.
The best small 2,000 PSI pressure washer
The Ryobi RY141812G is about the size of your average tool bag, yet it still cleans almost as well as the other two picks in this guide. The smaller size does present some shortcomings (no pun intended), but it also has some benefits that are pretty appealing.
Best small Ryobi RY141812G The RY141812G has a 97% recommendation rate (based on 500+ verified reviews from three sources). It’s one of the most popular pressure washers at Home Depot, rounding out the top five. Read more Check price
First things first, the Ryobi RY141812G has 1,800 PSI. This is obviously lower than the 2,000 PSI we’re aiming for, but like the previous Ryobi model, it’s still a reasonable comparison. When you’re within a few hundred pounds of pressure, it all cleans about the same. Of course there may be exceptions, but they would be rare.
The selling point of this model is something you’ve probably already noticed: it’s handheld. Weighing only 17.5 lbs and standing a little over 12” tall, it’s small and light enough for anyone to carry, and it’s super convenient for projects where you’re moving around a lot. When you’re done, it can fit anywhere, even the most packed garages and sheds. There are velcro straps to hold the hose and power cord, clamps for the spray gun and nozzles and even a 32 oz. detergent tank built into the body.
The RY141812G makes some compromises in quality to achieve its low price (plastic wand instead of steel, etc.), but we don’t consider any of them to be deal-breakers. The main concern is that it offers a similar level of power and reliability as the others, which it does.
How to choose a 2,000 PSI pressure washer
Learn what to look for when buying a pressure washer around 2,000 PSI. We’ll make sure this is enough pressure for the projects you have in mind, and we’ll help you choose the best features (engine, pump and more). Keep in mind, this advice is generalized, so there may be exceptions in some areas.
PSI and GPM
2,000 PSI is usually good enough for the average homeowner, but it’s important to be realistic about your expectations. You’ll be able to freshen up the average dirty surface, but taking on tougher conditions (like mold or oil stains) will more than likely require more cleaning power.
Gas vs. electric
You may have noticed this guide only included electric pressure washers. That’s because the lightest gas pressure washer starts at 2,400 PSI, with the majority being over 2,800 PSI, so they’re outside the realm of reasonable comparison. Still, gas models have two main advantages that are worth considering, even if it means buying above 2,000 PSI: they can be used anywhere because they aren’t restricted by a power cord, and they generally have higher quality components.
Trusted brands
Branding is important with any type of power equipment, but it’s especially important for this category of pressure washers. Since these are generally lower cost electric models, you have a lot of off-brand products with low quality control. Review the list below and see which brands to trust.
