XJ 4 Link Rear Crossmember
The 1984-2001 Jeep Cherokee has become A common platform for an affordable off-road vehicle. Sadly the aftermarket has been dragging its feet for years to create an effective tunable platform for a real 4 link suspension for the front. With different driving styles and different terrains and uses, Cherokee suspensions also need to be able to adapt to these terrains and uses. With that stated here is the IronMan4x4fab.com offering for that very purpose. This is a ¼” thick, A50, 5 piece cross member designed with suspension tuning in mind. With 4 lower link length locations and 4 upper link heights This system allows the suspension builder tune for low center of gravity setups for rocks or tall setups with more down force for mud. All of this benefit and it only hangs 2” below the chassis. This is better clearance than any other system that we are aware of! Here are some more specs on this system.
Bolt on and weld on system for ultimate strength and rigidity. (must weld on)
All hardware is grade 8 or higher
Available with links as additional purchase.
Locates entirely on the bottom of the chassis so it works with all frame stiffeners (Nutserts will require drilling).
Exhaust will require minor modification for clearance.

Description
Notes before purchase: This is a weld on suspension kit! Exhaust modifications are necessary for the skid plate and rear 4 link kit. Does not include coil spring perches, but those will be available separately very soon. All components come unpainted.
This is the complete rear 4 link crossmember for our complete XJ suspension system. It is a 3 piece crossmember built out of 3/16″ steel with removeable center section for simple future transmission/transfer case removal and service. It does have a bracket that locates off an original bolt hole for accurate crossmember placement, but is intended to be welded for ultimate reliability.
The bare crossmember does not come with the suspension links, but those can be added via the other product options in either DIY or prebuilt configurations. LCAs are made from highly bend resistant 2×2 .250″ square steel tubing, uppers are 1.5″ .250 DOM tubing. Paired with 1.25″ lower and .875″ upper heat treated chromoly heim joints. Prebuilt links are designed for 0-2″ stretch, DIY links have enough tubing length for up to 6″ of stretch for the customer to decide

Jeep Cherokee Rear Coil Conversion Cross Member 1984-2001, XJ
Our XJ rear cross member is part of our coil conversion kit. This cross member was designed to be used in conjunction with our 1/4 skid plate and skid plate sidebars to properly secure this in place. Can NOT be used by itself! Our coil conversion kits use this cross member, support rails attached to our front 3 piece cross member, and our 1/4″ skid plate to properly distribute the force put on the unibody.

If I ever build one I’m going to make the lowers level with the frame and with a lot of triangulation. The uppers will be in the back seat foot area like rockmonkey’s. That being said I’ve been planning it for a long time but can’t commit to it cause the leafs work and I’ve seen too many rear link swaps that make the rig perform worse

You can get into coilovers pretty reasonable nowadays. Just have to do a couple measurements and get your weight on each corner. How do you plan on mounting your shocks? In the trunk or still under the vehicle. Most I’ve seen do the inside route, personally, I’d angle them just right so they tuck up right in front of the gas tank.
As for my 3 link, I bought it years ago because I didn’t know how **** about doing suspensions besides your typical coils leafs etc. Since then, I’ve been building all my stuff. You’ll want a 3 piece crossmember so servicing your Trans and t case is easy and doesn’t require removing the links. I have square links, but round is no different. I like the square because it slides on rocks pretty well and it’s taken someone good beatings from these California rocks. Lowers are like 2.5″ tubing and the upper is 1.5-2″ I believe.
And I don’t think there are pros to running a 3 link except it’s weight reduction bro. Hahahaha but I’ve been in jeeps with a 4 link and I don’t feel a handling or see a difference in articulation. I daily mine with no sways, roughly 5.5″ of lift and 35s and it handles just fine. The issue is space when it comes to a 4 link. I didn’t want to get into it with mine, so I won’t be adding another link.
EDIT: converting from coils to coilovers is easy, but I’d skip the coils and go straight to coilovers only because I don’t wanna waste time and money on buying and burning in coil buckets just to cut them off and put shock tabs on. Just seems like a waste to me
